Women’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at North Central

NAPERVILLE – The Carthage women's track & field team opened up the outdoor season at the North Central First Chance at North Central College on Friday and Saturday. Throws led the way in a strong outdoor season opener for the Firebirds.
 
Who Led the Way

SPRINTS

The 4x400m relay of Mandy Nelson, Tara Schaalma, Noelle Marsh, and Kristin Farabaugh won with a time of 4:12.00. 

Schaalma placed sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.59. 

Sarah Kerfin placed sixth in the 200m with a time of 26.16. 

JUMPS

Two Firebirds had personal bests in the long jump with Christina Hall leading and winning with a jump of 5.62m. Teagan Johnston placed fourth with a mark of 5.35m. 

Additionally, Johnston tied for fourth place in the high jump clearing a height of 1.54m. 

Schaalma placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.84m. 

THROWS

Alexis Mattox and Nicole Tarpley went 1-2 in the hammer throw with marks of 51.39m and 49.70m respectively. 

Four Firebirds finished in the top six of the shot put. Mattox, Jackie Tuzil, and Madison Payne finished 2-4 with marks of 12.75m, 12.70m, and 12.59m respectively. Mikayla Wright placed sixth with a mark of 12.46m. 

CJ Lange placed fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.38m. Payne finished close behind in sixth with a personal best mark of 33.75m.

DISTANCE

Kylie Smith traveled to the WashU Distance Carnival to compete in the 5000 meters. Smith clocked in 18:28.18 for a 98th place finish out of 246 competitors. 

High Flyers

NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List

Hall's mark of 5.62 meters in the long jump places Hall in 14th in the long jump. 

In the shot put Mattox and Tuzil rank 18th and 19th with marks of 12.75m and 12.70m.

Tarpley's mark of 45.10 meters in the discus places Tarpley at sixth in the NCAA.

In the hammer throw, Mattox and Tarpley rank sixth and 12th with marks of 51.39m and 49.70m.

CCIW Top Performances

Looking at the CCIW, the Firebirds currently have three birds ranked first in their respective events; Hall in the long jump, Mattox in the shot put, and Tarpley in the discus.
