ROCHESTER - Abbey Calhoun and
Madison Payne of the Carthage women's track & field team competed in the triple jump and shot put at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
Calhoun competed in the triple jump Saturday morning. Calhoun started with a first mark of 11.73 meters. After scratching her second jump, Calhoun returned strong and jumped a mark of 12.12 meters. This mark broke the Carthage school record, which Calhoun herself has broken five times this indoor season. Calhoun continued to the finals, collecting marks of 11.53, 12.04, and 11.91. The farthest mark of 12.12 meters for Calhoun resulted in a seventh place finish and earning First-Team All-American honors.
Payne competed in the shot put Saturday afternoon. Payne started off with a first mark of 11.95. After a second throw ending in a scratch, Payne came back with a mark of 12.65, finishing in 16th place and earning Second-Team All-American honors.
"Abbey is the perfect example of what happens when you get a little bit better and a little more serious year after year", said Cale Brown. "She's grown so much over her four years, and it's really come on display for everyone to see. She's been the model for what we talk about most; consistency. Her consistency made us all really confident at her chance for an All-American finish today, and she did just that. We could not be more proud of her, she really earned this one."
"Unfortunately we didn't have our best performance today and that is okay", said Greg Raimondi. "Madison has competed well all year and the mark she threw today doesn't take away from what she has accomplished. The field was tough and she would have had to throw a personal best to get All American honors which shows how deep D3 track has gotten. This is a great learning and growing experience for Madison, one that will help her for outdoors."
