KENOSHA – The Carthage women's track & field team delivered a powerful all-around showing this weekend, stacking podium finishes across sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and relays. With multiple event victories and strong depth throughout the lineup, the Firebirds demonstrated momentum early in the indoor season.
The Firebirds claimed the team title, scoring 158 points.
Wis.-Parkside and Wheaton rounded out the top three spots, scoring 141 and 55.
SPRINTS
The Firebirds burst out of the blocks with an impressive series of sprint performances. Syvonna Perry headlined the effort with a pair of runner-up finishes—clocking 7.31 in the 55 meters and 26.58 in the 200 meters to secure two second-place spots.
The 300 meters showcased Carthage's dominance, producing a podium sweep of their own. Mandy Nelson surged to victory, capturing 1st place in 44.33, while Kylie Kutner followed close behind at 45.53 for 2nd place. Olivia Hartwig rounded out the group with a strong 3rd-place finish in 47.07, securing a full Firebird trio atop the event.
DISTANCE
Carthage's distance runners added major scoring depth with podium placements across every distance event. In the 800 meters, Rylie Wilson posted a steady 2:44.64 to earn 3rd place.
The mile saw a tight Firebird duo finishing back-to-back, led by Leela Desharnais, who claimed 2nd place in 5:49.71, and Allison Hunt, who crossed in 5:50.77 for 3rd.
The Firebirds dominated the 3,000 meters with a commanding sweep. Kylie Florance took control early and pulled away to win the event in 11:21.44. Right behind her,
Kaitlyn Jerbi secured 2nd place with an 11:46.09, and
Arianna DeLeon completed the sweep with a 3rd-place finish at 11:58.48.
JUMPS
Christina Hall delivered a standout performance in the long jump, securing 2nd place with a leap of 5.43 meters, continuing her early-season consistency.
THROWS
The throws unit put up one of the strongest showings of the meet, highlighted by a dominant day from Madison Payne. Payne claimed the shot put title with a mark of 13.50 meters, then returned for a podium finish in the weight throw, taking 3rd place at 15.53 meters. Teammate Lillian Townsend added to the scoring with a 3rd-place finish in the shot put, throwing 12.47 meters.
RELAYS
Closing out the meet, the Firebirds' 4x400 relay team of Nelson,
Julia Kraus,
Grace Nisius, and
Tara Schaalma clocked a strong 4:26.78 to secure 2nd place, capping the day with yet another podium performance.
NCAA Performance List
In the long jump, Christina Hall stands 17th in the national rankings after an impressive 5.43 meter performance.
In the shot put, Madison Payne's 13.50 meter throw positions Payne third nationally, while teammate Lillian Townsend holds the 17th spot with a solid mark of 12.47 meters.
Payne also continues to climb the national leaderboard in the weight throw, with an 15.53 meter effort, placing Payne 12th overall.
