Men's Track Earns Third Win of Season at Ripon Red Hawk Opener

RIPON - The Carthage men's track & field team hit the road for the first time this season as they competed at the Ripon College Red Hawk Opener on Friday evening. It was another strong showing for the Firebirds as the team came away with another team win to remain undefeated in the 2024-25 season.

The Firebirds placed first overall out of four teams with 197 points. St. Norbert finished second with 163 points, while Ripon finished third with 121 points. Lawrence rounded out the field in fourth place with 67 points.

SPRINTS

Mac Anderson won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07 seconds.

Dylan Parker won the 200m dash with a time of 23.12 seconds. Christopher Seals, Tre Mittchell, and Luke Shugarman placed third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

The 4x400 meter relay, which featured David Loess, Parker, Michael Barber, and Micah Anderson, placed second in the event with a season best time of 3:33.84.

DISTANCE

Mi. Anderson won the mile with a time of 4:30.76. LJ Higgs placed fourth with a personal best time of 4:40.32.

Trevor Swanson placed second in the 800m with a new personal best time of 2:01.29. Harlan Matson placed third in 2:02.19.

Luke Davey placed third in the 5,000m with a personal best time of 15:56.27.

Braydon Barth, Chad Helmke, and Andrew Schaer went one, two, three in the 3,000 meters, earning a combined 22 points for the team.

JUMPS

Kedrick Johnson won the triple jump with a jump of 13.86m.

Nnaemeka Obinna placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.41m.

Adam Kedzior placed second in the pole vault after clearing 3.64m.

Layne Rund placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.82m.

THROWS

Lucas Leal won the weight throw with a mark of 17.74m. Tyler Rose placed second at 16.92m, while Jacob Brost finished third with a new personal best throw of 16.58m.

Rose placed second in the shot put with a mark of 13.85m. Brost placed fourth, while Jordan Hughes took sixth.

Johnson's triple jump mark of 13.86m now ranks 32nd in NCAA Division III this season. Johnson is currently ranked fourth in the CCIW.
Brost's weight throw mark of 16.58m ranks 42nd in the country this season.
Swanson is ranked seventh in the CCIW in the 800m following his performance.
Lund ranks sixth among CCIW high jump athletes this season.

"I thought our team's depth was on display this evening and was what helped us earn a team win," said Head Coach Josh Henry. "We were able to pick up points in nearly every event and that was the difference. I was particularly happy with how we competed as I can tell the guys are a little fatigued with their training volume at this point in the season. Despite feeling a little flat, we were competitive throughout. As we look forward, we will definitely need to sharpen up over the next month to be where we want to be by championship season."

The Firebirds will return to action on Friday, Jan. 31 at the Wis-Whitewater Squig Converse. Carthage men's track & field returns to the Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center on Feb. 7 for the Tadd Metzger Invitational. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
