Schoeneman Claims Shot Put Title as Firebirds Finish Fourth at CCIW Championships

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carthage women's track & field team competed in the final day of the 2024 CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Augustana College on Saturday. It was another strong day for the Firebirds, who came away with an individual conference title, several personal best performances, and a fourth place team finish.

Who Led the Way

Aubrey Schoeneman won the shot put with a personal best throw of 15.17m. Alyssa Gulsvig placed third at a personal best 13.78m. Alexis Mattox placed fifth at 13.19m. Madison Payne placed sixth at 12.75m, while Mikayla Wright placed seventh at 12.73m. The Firebirds scored 25 points in the event.

Teagan Johnston placed fourth in the heptathlon with 3,792 points. Her top event was high jump, where she scored 689 points. Grace Nisius placed eighth with 3,336 points. Her best event was the 200m with 574 points. The pair combined for six points.

Tara Schaalma placed third in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 1:06.84. Julie Heinrichs placed eighth at 1:11.86. The duo earned 7 points for the Firebirds.

A. Gulsvig placed third in discus with a mark of 44.61m. A. Schoeneman placed fifth at 43.14m, while Jackie Tuzil placed sixth with a personal best 42.94m. Nicole Tarpley placed seventh at 41.34m. Carthage earned 15 points in the event.

T. Schaalma placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 15.49 seconds, scoring 5 points.

T. Schaalma placed fourth in triple jump with a mark of 10.92m, scoring 5 points

The 4x100m relay, which featured Jazzmine Jones, Mandy Nelson, Anna Kegel, and Sarah Kerfin, placed fifth with a season best time of 49.06 seconds.

Kylie Smith placed fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 18:40.25.

The 4x400m relay, which showcased M. Nelson, J. Heinrichs, Noelle Marsh, and T. Schaalma, placed fifth with a season best time of 4:09.72.

T. Johnston and Charlotte Monroe tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.54m. It was a new personal best for Monroe.
