Firebirds Place Third at Wheaton College Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. - The Carthage women's track & field team competed at the 2024 Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday afternoon. It was another strong outing for the Firebirds, coming away with a pair of individual wins and a third-place finish on the team scoreboard.

Who Led the Way

Aubrey Schoeneman won discus with a throw of 42.50m. Alyssa Gulsvig took second at 41.89m, while Nicole Tarpley placed third at 41.55m. Jackie Tuzil placed fourth with a mark of 40.88m. Madison Payne placed eighth at 36.82m. The squad earned 30 points in the event.

A. Schoeneman won shot put with a throw of 14.80m. A. Gulsvig placed third at 13.09, while Alexis Mattox placed fourth at 12.64m. M. Payne took sixth at 12.18m, while Mikayla Wright finished eighth at 11.82m. The Firebirds scored 25 points in the event.

A. Mattox placed second in hammer throw with a mark of 49.86m. A. Schoeneman placed fourth at 48.47m, while N. Tarpley placed fifth at 47.69m and Dora Dill placed sixth at 46.01m. M. Payne closed out the scoring in the event in seventh place at 44.87m. The Firebirds scored 22 points in the event.

Jessie Pakaski placed third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 12:20.70. Claire Guenther placed fourth in 13:04.15, while Kaitlyn Jerbi finished fifth in 13:50.19. The trio earned 13 points for the Firebirds. 

Teagan Johnston placed third in high jump with a mark of 1.58m. She scored 5.5 points in the event.

T. Johnston placed fourth in long jump with a jump of 5.15m, scoring 5 more points for Carthage.

Tara Schaalma placed fourth in triple jump with a mark of 10.61m. She earned 5 points for the team in the event.

The 4x100m relay team, which featured Jazzmine Jones, Mandy Nelson, Anna Kegel, and Sarah Kerfin, finished fifth in a combined time of 50.23 seconds. The team earned 4 points for the team score.

The 4x400m relay team, composed of Grace Nisius, Julie Heinrichs, Julia Kraus, and T. Schaalma, placed seventh in 4:13.19 and scored 3 team points.
