VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Carthage women's track & field team competed in day two of the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships. It was an exciting conclusion to the weekend for the Firebirds, as the team celebrated
Aubrey Schoeneman after her All-American performance.
Schoeneman placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 14.37m. The throw came in her second attempt of the day. Schoeneman becomes the 21st athlete in Carthage women's track & field history to earn All-American honors at an NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship meet.Â
Alyssa Gulsvig placed 17th in shot put with a mark of 13.06m. The mark came on her final attempt of the day.
"I am very proud of these athletes and the way they competed this weekend," said Head Coach Stephanie Domin. "We have had a wild ride with Alex and Aubrey securing their spot for NCAA early and Nicole, Alyssa and Anna qualifying on the last weekend. The highlight was Aubrey 4th place All American honors, she competed strong. To compete at this meet which gets strong and stronger every year is an experience and memories that will never be forgotten. Proud of the team and the work Coach Greg and Coach Cale do for our athletes."
"I thought our women's throws group did a great job of representing our program this weekend," said Assistant Coach Greg Raimondi. "For the most part we held our own and kept the same places we were coming into the weekend. Day 1, we definitely left some opportunity for All-American honors on the board. Fortunately Alexis will use this as an opportunity to grow from and be in a better spot come this outdoor season. This was Nicole's first indoor national meet and with qualifying the week before I thought she composed herself well while going after it. Day 2 was highlighted by Aubrey Schoeneman earning her first All-American honors as a Firebird, taking 4th. She competed really well and executed like she has been all year which highlights all the hard work she put in this season to be on that podium. This was Alyssa's first national meet and I thought she did a great job competing. She kept building to get her best mark on the last round and I can't wait to see how she continues to improve outdoors."
"The last few weeks Anna has grown into a new athlete," said Assistant Coach Cale Brown. "In just her second year long jumping she's learned what it takes to be a CCIW champion, national qualifier, and now has a taste of what it takes to be an all-American. Now that she knows she's more than a sprinter it'll be so much fun to see how far she can go."
The Firebirds will now look forward to the outdoor track & field season, as the team is set to open the spring schedule on March 29 at the First Chance Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.). For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
