Johnson Headlines CCIW All-Conference Honors For Carthage

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has unveiled its men's basketball All-Conference list with the Carthage College's men's basketball team earning four noteworthy honors.

First-year student-athlete Ryan Johnson has been named the CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year. Hailing from Oswego, Ill., Johnson demonstrated impressive performance, averaging 10.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Firebirds. Notably, he achieved a season-best of 25 points against Millikin on January 6. Johnson's remarkable accomplishments mark the first time in program history that Carthage has secured back-to-back First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year awards. Additionally, Johnson earned a spot on the Second Team.

Senior Fillip Bulatovic, from Harwood Heights, Ill., earned another unanimous First Team selection. Leading the Firebirds in scoring with an average of 15.4 points per game and dominating the rebounds per game category with 9.4, Bulatovic showcased his skills with notable performances, including an outstanding 32 points against Augustana (Ill.) on February 3 and 17 rebounds against Illinois Wesleyan on January 13. Bulatovic's outstanding contributions earned him recognition as the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week on February 5.

Antuan Nesbitt, a junior from Milwaukee, Wis., received his second consecutive All-Conference honor, joining Bulatovic on the esteemed First Team list. Nesbitt led the conference in minutes played per game with an impressive 37.2. His versatile skills were showcased with season-best performances, including 25 points against IIT on December 15 and 12 assists against Augustana (Ill.) on December 2. Nationally, Nesbitt holds the third-best minutes per-game mark in the country.

Senior Anthony Bernero was honored with this year's RESECT Award for Carthage. This award recognizes student-athletes who exemplify outstanding character, encourage inclusiveness and foster a positive culture within their team, institution, and community. Bernero's on-court achievements included a season-bests eight points against Millikin on February 17, five rebounds against Ursinus on December 21, and two blocks against Illinois Wesleyan on January 13.

The Firebirds, seeded No. 3 in the CCIW Tournament, will host the No. 6 seed Augustana (Ill.) on Tuesday, February 20, at 7 p.m.
