Firebirds Finish Second at Parkside Classic

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage women's track & field team competed in the Parkside Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds battled and found points through numerous events, coming just shy of earning the victory over the hosting Parkside Rangers and securely defeating Concordia Wisconsin and Benedictine (Ill.).

Who Led the Way

The Firebirds swept the points in weight throw, with Alexis Mattox leading the way at 17.38m. Aubrey Schoeneman placed second at 16.67m, with Nicole Tarpley placing third at 16.49m. Rounding out the scoring eight was Madison Payne in fourth, Hannah Lizano in fifth, Dora Dill in sixth, Jackie Tuzil in seventh, and Mikayla Wright in eighth.

The throws success brewed over into the shot put, as the Firebirds finished 1-7 in the event. Schoeneman brought home the victory with a throw of 14.53m. Alyssa Gulsvig placed second at 12.66m, with Mattox taking third at 12.62m. Tuzil placed fourth, with Payne in fifth and Wright in sixth. Lillian Townsend rounded out Carthage's 38 points in seventh place.

Anna Kegel won the 55m dash in 7.41 seconds. Mandy Nelson placed sixth, while Shea Voegtle placed seventh.

The Firebirds scored 21 points in the long jump. Christina Hall placed second at 5.19m. Jadynn Kramer placed fifth, with Emma Kreuziger in sixth, and Ally LaBerge in seventh place.

Julie Heinrichs placed third in the 800m with a finishing time of 2:29.06.

Kylie Florance placed third in the 3,000m with a time of 11:06.88. Kylie Smith finished next in fourth place, allowing the Firebirds to tally 11 points in the event.

Tara Schaalma placed fifth in the 55m hurdles, finishing in 9.11 seconds. Teagan Johnston placed seventh, with Charlotte Monroe placing eighth. The trio combined for seven team points.

Caitlyn Hodgins placed fifth in the 400m in 1:07.42. Jill Forgac placed eighth as the duo earned a combined five points.

Addison Huppert placed sixth in the pole vault, clearing 2.46m. 

Monroe placed sixth in high jump at 1.52m.

Lili Bednarek placed seventh in the mile with a time of 5:39.48. Kaitlyn Jerbi placed eighth in 5:40.17.

Women's track & field is back in action on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24  as the team heads to Naperville, Ill. to compete in the 2024 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
