WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Carthage women's track & field team traveled to UW-Whitewater on Saturday to compete in the Midwest Elite Invitational. The Firebirds competed well in a tough field of Division III teams, coming away with a fifth place finish.

Alyssa Gulsvig placed second in the shot put with a throw of 13.56m. Aubrey Schoeneman placed third at 13.42m. The duo combined for 14 team points.

Alexis Mattox placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 17.40m. Nicole Tarpley placed eighth at 15.62m. The Firebirds scored seven points in the event.

Claire Guenther placed fourth in the 3,000m in 11:49.57. Aubrey Broz placed sixth in 12:01.00, with Elizabeth Eck finishing in seventh place in 12:05.73. The three runners tallied 10 points for the Firebirds.

Abbey Calhoun placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.97m. Tara Schaalma placed eighth at 10.54m. The jumpers combined for 2.5 points.



"The UW-Whitewater Elite Meet is a great environment for our team to be up against the top track and field athletes and teams in Division III," said Head Coach Stephanie Domin. "This meet is another step to prepare us for the conference meet in two weeks."



Women's track & field is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 17 as the team heads down the road to Parkside for the Parkside Classic. The Firebirds return to the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on March 1 as the team will host the Firebird Finale. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
