White Breaks Shot Put Record as Firebirds Compete at UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Carthage men's track and field team traveled north to compete in the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Open on Saturday morning. It was a big day for the Firebirds, as the team came away with several strong performances, including another school record for senior Joseph White.

White dominated in shot put, winning the meet with a throw of 18.65 meters. The mark breaks his previous school record of 18.47 meters. White now sits in the top ten all-time for NCAA Division III in shot put. Lucas Leal placed seventh with a throw of 13.62 meters.

White came back to win weight throw with a mark at 21.38 meters. Leal took second with a throw of 17.54 meters. Jacob Brost finished the day in fourth place with a throw of 15.45 meters.

"We brought a small group of throwers to Oshkosh to try and build off the early success we had last weekend," said Assistant Coach Greg Raimondi. "We came away with a few season bests and PRs but the highlight was seeing consistency among the group. Joseph started the day off strong with a new school record shot PR of 18.65m and now claims the #7 mark in NCAA history. Lucas and Jake had a solid day as we head into our winter break. Excited to see how they continue to improve once we return in January."
