Firebirds Compete at Early Bird Open

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Carthage women's track & field team sent a select group of athletes to compete in the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Open on Saturday. The Firebirds looked to build off a strong opening weekend and came away with several impressive performances.

Aubrey Shoeneman came away with a victory in shot put, winning with a mark of 14.32 meters. Alexis Mattox took second with a personal best throw of 13.55 meters. Alyssa Gulsvig placed fourth at 12.94 meters, followed by Madison Payne in fifth at 12.82 meters and Mikayla Wright in sixth place at 12.17 meters.

Mattox went on to take second in weight throw with a mark of 16.85 meters. Schoeneman took third place at 16.44 meters. Hannah Lizano placed fourth with a throw of 15.95 meters. Nicole Tarpley placed fifth with a mark of 15.84 meters. Payne and Gulsvig finished seventh and eighth with marks of 14.76 and 14.14 meters.

"We brought a small group of throwers to Oshkosh to try and build off the early success we had last weekend," said Assistant Coach Greg Raimondi. "We came away with a few season bests and PRs but the highlight was seeing consistency amongst the group. Aubrey and Alexis continue to lead the group. Alexis had a PR in the shot to move up to #5 in the ncaa and better her #8 mark in school history. Aubrey had a really strong showing in the shot with two marks over 14m and a PR in the weight to move to #7 in the ncaa. Excited to see how they continue to improve once we return in January."
