5/26/2022 1:25:00 PM

GENEVA, Ohio — Carthage men's track and field sophomore Joseph White began his busy weekend at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, placing 12th in the discus throw at the Spire Sports Complex.

"Joseph had a strong start to the meet today," said head coach Josh Henry. "Of the three events he qualified for, this was the one he was ranked the lowest in, so for him to improve to 12th nationally is very encouraging."

Hitting 43.28 meters on his first attempt, White returned for his second throw and made it 48.50 meters for his best on the day. Entering the day seeded 15th in the discus throw, the Kenosha, Wis. native moved up three spots to place 12th in the event.

This is the second time White has competed in nationals in the discus throw in his two years at Carthage, after placing 17th nationally in 2021.

Up next, White is scheduled to compete in the men's shot put tomorrow, May 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT and is seeded second.

"I'm excited to see what he does in the shot tomorrow," said Henry. "That has has been his best event all year, and I expect he will continue to excel there."
