White Puts Himself in Position to Qualify for Nationals in Discus at St. Francis

5/14/2022 5:07:00 PM

JOLIET, Ill. — Sending a small batch of student-athletes to the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite on Saturday, the Carthage men's track and field team set new personal bests as the 2022 outdoor season winds down. The Firebirds will close out their regular season next week, on Thursday, May 19 at the Augustana Midwest Twilight.

Head Coach Josh Henry

"We had some great performances over the past three days. Getting Joseph in position to qualify for all three throws is huge. Chase and Craig moving up in the all-time lists at Carthage was great as well. I was also encouraged by our sprints crew putting down some great marks. I'm excited to go one more time at Augustana next week before the national meet. We still have some unfinished business that we'd like to accomplish before closing out the 2022 season."

Highlights

  • After qualifying for the event last spring as a freshman, Joseph White essentially locked his place in the NCAA National Championships in the discus, after setting a new PR today with a mark of 50.54 meters.
  • White's discus throw moves him into fourth all-time at Carthage in the event.
  • Returning in the shot put, White took first place in the event today with a throw of 16.47 meters, but currently ranks second in the nation with a season-best of 18.01 meters.
  • Lucas Leal set a new PR in the shot put, hitting 14 meters flat.
