Carthage Takes Third at Don Church Invite

4/24/2022 5:36:00 PM

WHEATON, Ill. — The Carthage men's track and field team continued to set numerous personal bests and place new marks in the school record books, competing at the Don Church Invitational at Wheaton on Saturday, April 23.

The team scored 113 points on the day to take third place overall. The Firebirds will compete in the Drake Alternate Meet next weekend before setting their sights on the CCIW Championships.

Head Coach Josh Henry

"We finally were able to catch a warm weather meet this weekend and we had some guys definitely take advantage of the good fortune. The biggest highlights of the day came out of the throws group. Joseph absolutely demolished the shot put school record and now has the national lead in the event. In the hammer he threw a personal best that moves him up to 7th in school history. However, Joseph was outdone in the hammer by Matt, who demolished his personal best mark. He now is third in school history and that mark currently sits as the fifth-best mark this season nationally.

"On the track, we saw some big improvements from several events today. Some of the most exciting developments were Al in the 110 Hurdles and Chase in the 800m. We also had a great performance from Micah in his debut 10K at Augustana the night before. His time is seventh in school history, which is a pretty impressive feat for his first attempt at the event.

"It's crazy to think we only have one more rehearsal before the conference championship, so we have a lot of improvement that needs to be done in a short amount of time. However, this was a really nice step in the right direction for us."

Highlights

  • On Friday, Micah Anderson ran a 32:11.79 in the 10K at the Augustana Meet of Champions, the eighth-best time in school history.
  • Chase Upmann took second place in the 800-meter today with a time of 1:56.22, while Craig Hundley was right behind him in fourth at 1:58.93.
  • Hundley also took a top spot in the 1,500, placing second with a time of 4:05.17.
  • Alassane Guisse took third in the 110 hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.09 seconds.
  • Joseph White broke the school record in the shot put on his first attempt of the day, before topping it once more on attempt four at 17.79 meters, which currently leads all of NCAA Division III.
  • White then took first again in the discus before placing second in the hammer with a PR of 54.93 meters.
  • Besting White in the hammer was Matthew Ausse, who set a new PR and nearly broke the school record with a toss of 59.30 meters.
