WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Carthage women's track and field throwers Alexis Mattox and Hannah Lizano competed one last time in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship at the JDL Fast Track Indoor Facility on Friday, with Mattox taking 13th place and Lizano 14th.

"I am incredibly proud of these two for the amazing indoor seasons they have had," said assistant coach Greg Raimondi. "Today's results weren't what they wanted, but finishing 13th and 14th at a National Championship meet is a great accomplishment."

On her first attempt of the day, Mattox hit 16.05 meters, before posting a throw of 16.02 meters on her second try. A foul on her third would set her in 13th place in the national meet. Lizano would hit her best mark of the day on her first attempt as well, posting a throw of 15.95 meters, before fouling on attempt two and hitting 15.74 meters on her third and final attempt. After entering the meet seeded 16th, Lizano would climb up to a 14th-place finish.

"This was the first national meet for both of them and nerves got the best of them," said Raimondi. "Competing against this level of competition is a valuable growing and learning experience which will help them to achieve an even higher level of success moving forward in their careers."

Mattox will cap off the indoor season for the Firebirds women's track and field team tomorrow, when she competes in the shot put beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
