Hundley II Breaks Mile School Record, Firebirds Go Six For Six with Personal Bests

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Six student-athletes from the Carthage men's track and field team made the trip to the GVSU Tune-Up at the Gately Indoor Track and Field Complex on Friday, with each one setting personal bests in their event led by Craig Hundley II crushing the school record in the mile.

"The highlight of the day was easily Craig's mile," said head coach Josh Henry. "His time of 4:10.59, crushes the previous school record of 4:14.34 set by Joel Brunner in 2009. He looked incredibly controlled the whole way and closed well the final 400 meters for the win. It's been fun seeing the progress he's made after an excellent cross country season."

The first event to hit the track for Carthage, was the mile, where Hundley II, Micah Anderson, and Peyton Heiser all competed. Crossing the finish line first was Hundley II with his program-record time of 4:10.59, while Anderson took ninth with a personal-best time of 4:23.89, narrowly missing a top-10 time in the event in Carthage history. Heiser set a PR in the mile as well, taking 12th place after finishing with a time of 4:28.23.

In the men's 400-meter dash, Cody Canegan set an indoor personal-best at 50.29 seconds, tying him for the 10th-fastest time in school history. The Firebirds wrapped up their day in the 800, as Cameron Fischer took second place with a PR time of 1:56.52, while Michael Barber claimed fourth with a time of 1:57.15 to set a new PR as well.

"Cody ran an indoor PR for the 400 with a 50.29," said Henry. "He's looked strong two weeks in a row and I'm excited to see what he can do at conference next week. Lastly, Cam and Barber both ran huge PR's in the 800m. Both looked very strong and it's really encouraging seeing them run 1:56.5 and 1:57.1 the week before conference."

The rest of the Carthage men's track and field team will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge on Saturday, February 19.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of the crew can do up in Oshkosh tomorrow," said Henry.
