Men’s Track Makes Mark on Program Record Books at Aurora Grand Prix

1/29/2022 8:55:00 PM

CHICAGO — In a tough field at the Aurora Grand Prix, the Carthage men's track and field team posted multiple top performances, including five changes to the top-10 record book, at the Gately Indoor Track and Field on Saturday. The Firebirds will return home for their next event, hosting the Tadd Metzger Invitational on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5.

Head Coach Josh Henry

"Having the opportunity to compete at one of the premier indoor track & field facilities made this a meet that we kind of circled on our calendars. The guys definitely did not disappoint and really brought their level of performance up a notch today. All event groups excelled and this has been the closest we've been this season to having the full squad together. What is truly exciting is we still have a lot of areas of opportunity where we can improve before the conference meet next month. With that said, this may be one of the most well rounded meets we've had as a team in my time here at Carthage. Proof of that is the five new additions we had to the program's top 10 list today."

"In the sprints, Mac ran a very nice 60m and is currently 10th in Carthage school history with his time of 7.16. Not too bad for a guy who transitioned from baseball this fall. He was very closely followed by David who ran 7.20 and came back later in the day to run a 22.72 in the 200m. That mark is good enough for 10th in school history, knocking Coach Michael Schantek off the leaderboard."

"Distance had the kind of day where it's easier to count those who didn't run a personal best than it is to count those who did. The biggest highlight came from the distance medley relay of Chase, Aidan Lodwig, Barber, and Cam Fischer. Their time of 10:25.46 ranks third in school history and is currently fifth in Division III. We do expect that to drop a little once all the results come in this weekend, but it is a huge accomplishment nonetheless."

"In the jumps, Alex Jarvis had a great series in the triple jump, ending on his best in finals with a 14.13m. That mark ranks fourth in school history, just 1cm behind Coach Cale Brown. That mark also currently ranks 18th in Division III."

The highlight of the day for throws was definitely Joseph's shot put. He had a monster PR with his mark of 16.63m and that currently ranks 4th in Division III. It also places Joseph in a tie with Bill Verson for 3rd in school history.  Bill was the former school record holder and a national champion in the shot put in 1977. We're definitely looking forward to taking this momentum into February and are excited to host the Tadd Metzger Invite back at the TARC on Friday."
