KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage men's track and field team picked up their second first-place finish in as many meets this indoor season, hosting and winning the Firebird Opener on Saturday at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center. The Firebirds totaled 111 points to claim the team win, topping Carroll's 87 points in second, and Concordia Wisconsin's 83 points in third.

Head Coach Josh Henry

"I thought we had a pretty solid season opener today, and there were a lot of very strong performances. You could really see we had guys put in some great work over the winter break. The highlight of the day came from Joseph White, he opened 2022 with a bomb in the weight throw. His mark is second in school history, just shy of our school record. It also ranks second nationally as of this evening. We had some strong performances in the distance events, highlighted by a big PR from Chase in the mile. In the sprints, Cody had a very strong performance in the 200 and anchored the 4x400 with a really strong split for this early in the season. For the jumps, Jarvis had a really nice opener on a short approach after a year layoff. He was certainly missed last season and we are excited to have him back jumping this year. We do have a lot of areas to improve, one of which is health. We had several key guys resting for various reasons today. We're looking forward to a good week of training ahead and aim to bring a more complete squad to North Central next week."
