WARRENVILLE, Ill. — The Carthage women's cross country team placed 8th at the 2021 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship meet this Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds ended with 200 points with an average pace of 24:25 from their top five runners for the event.

Amy Mayhill led the way for the Firebirds, earning second team all-conference honors as she placed 13th with a time of 23:06.1 for the women's 6k. Katelyn Smith followed behind in 46th place with 24:32.0, while Claire Guenther clocked in at 24:42.1. Senior Laura Sanders posted a time of 24:52.8 and Malena Chiodi rounded out Carthage's top five runners with a time of 24:54.2.

"Amy had an amazing race today placing 13th (second team all-CCIW) and ran her lifetime best by over a minute," said head coach Steph Domin. "She stepped up and competed. Our team place was not what we wanted. We are a better team than today's showing and hope to redeem ourselves in two weeks at regionals.

A special shout out to the open runners where we had multiple lifetime best and to Laura Sanders who was awarded the Respect Award today."

Saturday, November 13th the Firebirds will run at the NCAA North Regional Championship at Whitetail Golf Course in Eau Claire, Wis.
