Red Men and Vikings to Square-Off in CCIW Semifinals

 

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team will open CCIW Tournament play with a semifinal matchup against #4 Augustana College at Art Keller Field on Wednesday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. The Red Men will look to keep their seven-game win streak intact against the Vikings, who are coming off a 9-2 loss to Elmhurst College on April 29.
 
#2 Illinois Wesleyan and #3 Elmhurst will square-off in the other CCIW Semifinal game on Wednesday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m.
 
Junior Andy Meyers paces all NCAA Division III men's lacrosse players with a .768 (189-246) face-off winning percentage. Meyers' 9.19 ground balls per game currently stands at 12th in the country. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Smith's 6.22 goals against average ranks fourth in NCAA Division III. As a team, Carthage is ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense (5.83).
 
The Red Men are one win away from tying a school record for most victories in a single-season.
 
ABOUT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (7-10, 3-3 CCIW)
 
The Vikings will take a two-game losing skid into Wednesday' semifinal bout, which includes an 8-5 loss to the Red Men on April 26. Carthage found themselves in a 4-0 hole in their contest against Augustana before they came back with an 8-5 victory.
 
Adam Borgetti paces Augustana in scoring with 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points. Not far behind is Nick Gallo, who carries 24 goals and nine assists for 33 points. Hayden Holland and Matt Balara command the Augustana defense with 17 caused turnovers a piece. McKay Potter leads the Vikings' face-off efforts with a 117-257 (.455) figure.
 
Dan Torie is in his second season as Augustana College head men's lacrosse coach. The Red Men are 6-2 all-time against the Vikings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The winner of both semifinal matches will meet in the CCIW Tournament Championship Game on Saturday, May 6 at the highest remaining seed. Win or lose, the Red Men will learn whether they've earned one of the Pool B bids for the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament during the selection show on Sunday, May 7 at 9:00 p.m. (ET).
