Three-Game Week Ahead For Men's Lacrosse

 


KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (9-3, 2-0 CCIW) will embark on a three-game week. The Red Men will travel to Elmhurst College on Tuesday, April 11 for a 7:00 p.m. game before they host Whittier College (12:00 p.m.) and North Central College (7:00 p.m.) in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 15.
 
The Red Men improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 13-11 win over Illinois Wesleyan University on April 8 behind Andy Meyers' 18-of-28 faceoff winning percentage, and Andrew Krom's season-high four goals in the contest. Meyers enters the week with a .752 faceoff winning percentage, which ranks second in the country. Andy Szun paces the Red Men scorers with 29 goals and 19 assists for 48 points. Carthage goalkeeper Ryan Smith, who's started 10 games this season, has a 7.52 goals against average and a .496 save percentage. 
 
ABOUT ELMHURST COLLEGE (5-6, 1-0 CCIW)
 
The Bluejays will take a two-game win streak into their affair with Carthage. This includes a 25-8 victory over Adrian College on April 1, and a 21-1 win over Carroll University on April 8.
 
Mac Harden, the reigning CCIW Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Bluejays in scoring with 27 goals and eight assists for 35 points. Elmhurst's .888 clearing percentage ranks second in the CCIW and eighth in NCAA Division III.
 
Goalkeeper Nick Bonastia, who's started every game for Elmhurst, owns a 7.36 goals against average and a .588 save percentage in 571:01 of work this season.
 
A perfect 6-0 all-time mark against Elmhurst College is at stake for the Red Men.   Mark Morrell is in his fifth season as Elmhurst College head men's lacrosse coach.
 
ABOUT WHITTIER COLLEGE (CALIF.) (7-4)
 
Whittier's 2-0 record against midwestern teams this season includes a 21-4 win against Hope College on March 22, and an 11-6 victory over Elmhurst College on March 24. The Poets will enter their April 14 meeting with Illinois Wesleyan ranked first in the country with 15.80 caused turnovers per game.
 
Chris Burley leads the Whittier scoring with 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points. Nick Hernandez (28), Ashton Pieris (27) and Evan Price (26) make up the 20+ point scorers on the Poet's lineup. Alex Cramer, who's started 11 games in net for Whittier, carries a 8.42 goals against average and a .569 saves percentage in 626:57 of work.
 
Brian Kelly is in his ninth season as Whittier College head men's lacrosse coach. The Red Men are 0-3 all-time against the Poets.
 
ABOUT NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE (ILL.) (8-1, 0-0 CCIW)
 
The Cardinals opened their inaugural season with a seven-game win streak. Their first blemish in school history occurred in a 9-7 loss at Concordia University (Wis.) on March 29. North Central most recently defeated Northland College 13-9 in the battle of first-year programs.
 
The Cardinals' roster consists of 20 freshman and sophomore attack Trevor James, who ranks second on the team in scoring with 19 goals and seven assists for 26 points. Tommy Huizinga leads North Central's scoring with 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points.
 
Cardinal goalkeeper Ross Hixson's 6.23 goals against average this season ranks seventh in the country. Jay Farrell is in his first season as North Central College (Ill.) head men's lacrosse coach.

The Red Men will return to action on Saturday, April 22 at Benedictine University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
