Rasmussen's 600 Meter Run School Record Highlights Track & Field's Season-Opener at UW-Oshkosh

FINAL RESULTS

OSHKOSH, WIS.—Four individual titles and a school record resulted from the Carthage College track & field team's season-opener at the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational on Saturday. Junior Dane Rasmussen's Carthage indoor school record 1:22.19 in the 600 meter run propelled the Red Men to second place out of eight squads with 86 points. His first-place mark edged Sam Meier's previous school record 1:22.86 in 2006. Mia Bennett registered individual titles in the weight throw (57-00.00) and shot put (43-03.00) to help the Lady Reds secure fifth place out of seven teams with 59 points.
 
UW-Oshkosh pulled down both the men's (240) and women's (203) team championships.
 
The Red Men's other individual title occurred in the shot put, where Jake Menard tallied a 51-05.00. He also notched second place in the weight throw with a mark of 53-05.50.
 
Michael Schantek (1:23.13), Dante Graham (1:24.54) and Quade Kayle (1:25.50) also mustered impressive times in the 600 meter run for Carthage. Dan Cotton (15:57.87) and Zakry Schwartz (16:45.72) occupied the second and third spots on the 5000 meter run podium.
 
The Lady Reds swept the shot put podium with Bennett, Elizabeth Willis (41-07.25) and Alicia Nicolau (41-03.00). Sarah Schmidt took bronze in the weight throw with a toss of 51-05.50.
 
The track & field teams will return to action on Saturday, January 13, 2018 when they host the Private College Invitational at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center.
