Augustana Awaits Red Men In Regular Season Finale



KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team will play their final regular season game of the season on Saturday, April 30 at Augustana College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
 
The Red Men clinched at least a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Lacrosse title with their 14-10 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on April 23. Carthage is the lone undefeated team in the CCIW. Illinois Wesleyan and Augustana, who own 4-1 and 3-1 CCIW records, have a shot to tie for the CCIW Men's Lacrosse Championship in the event of a Red Men loss on Saturday.
 
The CCIW Semifinal will be held at the #1 and #2 seeds on Wednesday, May 1st, and the Championship game will take between the semifinal winners at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 7.
 
ABOUT AUGUSTANA (10-6, 3-1 CCIW)
 
The Vikings are coming off a 17-13 loss to Illinois Wesleyan on April 28. That loss snapped a six-game win streak that began on April 2. Alexander Crescenti paces the Viking scoring with 45 goals and 5 assists for 50 points. Scott Davis trails him with 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points.
 
Jack Peters has started all 14 games in net this season for Augustana. He carries a 9.82 goals against average, and a .523 save percentage.
 
As a team, the Vikings collected 547 ground balls and caused 270 turnovers.
 
The Vikings can tie for the CCIW Regular Season Men's Lacrosse Championship with a victory over the Red Men.
 
Dan Torie is in his first season as Augustana College head men's lacrosse coach. He came to the Vikings following three seasons as assistant coach at Franklin Marshall.
 
CARTHAGE (8-8, 4-0 CCIW)
 
The Red Men, who clinched a share of the 2016 CCIW Championship, are led by Dylan Harris's 27 goals and 20 assists for 47 points. Andy Szun and Jared Ferrell are tied for second on the team in scoring. Szun owns 31 goals and 6 assists for 37 points while Ferrell carries 26 goals and 11 assists for 37 points. Connor Nelson leads the Red Men with 22 caused turnovers on the season.
 
Ryan Smith leads the Red Men goalkeepers with a 7.87 goals against average, and a .546 save percentage in 11 starts on the season.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The Red Men will compete in the CCIW Semifinals on Wednesday, May 4 against an opponent to be determined.
