Williams Too Much For Red Men

Box Score
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.—The Rocky Mountains were the scenery for the Carthage College men's lacrosse team in their game against Williams College on Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs, Colo. Williams College is one of two out-of-region opponents on the Red Men's schedule in Colorado, the other being Colorado College.

The Red Men have logged plenty of miles the past two weeks after stops at Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) on March 22, and Hanover College (Ind.) on March 23. Sandwiched between those games and their Colorado trip was a 13-9 loss to Aurora University at Art Keller Field on March 26.

The Red Men fell to Williams College 18-7 in the front-end of their two-game Colorado swing.

Carthage falls to 5-5, 1-0 CCIW while the Ephs improve to 5-3, 2-2 NESCAC.

Williams 18 , Red Men 17

Justin Proctor's opening faceoff win set up the game's first goal. Luke Seydel helped the Red Men keep possession with a ground ball pickup behind the Williams net after a failed shot attempt. Billy Lane eventually put the Red Men on the scoreboard with a goal at the 13:50 mark of the first quarter to give them a 1-0 lead.

After the Ephs knotted the game 1-1 with 12:59 left in the first quarter, the Red Men regained the lead again. Andy Szun did the honors this time with a goal at the 10:37 mark of the first quarter to make the score 2-1.

That was the Red Men's final lead of the game as the Ephs responded with three goals to double them up 4-2 with 5:45 left in the first quarter.

Luke Seydel tallied his seventh goal of the season for the Red Men with 0:42 left in the first quarter to make the score 4-3 before the Ephs made things 5-3 with 0:01 on the clock.

The Ephs distanced themselves from the Red Men in the second quarter enroute to a 9-4 halftime lead.

The Red Men couldn't get their feet from underneath them in the third quarter and the Ephs capitalized on that with five-straight goals en route to a 15-4 lead with 4:40 left in the third quarter.

Szun tallied two more goals for the Red Men to close the contest, but it wasn't enough in an 18-7 loss.

The Red Men had eight caused turnovers in the game, compared to Williams' six.

Carthage will close their stay in Colorado Springs, Colo. tomorrow, April 3 against Colorado College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. (MT)
