BIRMINGHAM, ALA.—A four-game win streak was on the line for the Carthage College men's lacrosse team in their game at Birmingham-Southern College on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Men's 4-2 overall record on the season was the best among all CCIW schools prior to their game with the Panthers.

The Red Men and Panthers each traded a pair of goals twice until a 4-4 tie in the fourth quarter. After 14+ minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Davis Thompson notched a game-winning goal for Birmingham-Southern with 0:06 left in the game to give them a 5-4 victory.

Carthage falls to 4-3, 0-0 CCIW while Birmingham-Southern improves to 9-1, 2-0 SAA.

The
Dylan Harris and
Jared Ferrell duo set the tone and helped the Red Men light the scoreboard first. Carthage peppered the Panthers for four shots before they found the back of the net.

Ferrell received a pass from
Tanner Thomas and found the back of the net for Carthage with 5:18 left in the first quarter to make the score 1-0.

Harris picked up where he left off with 13:55 remaining in the second quarter to make the score 2-0 before the contest was like a game of chess. Thomas Grove and Greg Wallace each tallied goals for the Panthers to knot the game 2-2 with 10:57 left in the second frame before the Ferrell and Harris duo responded.

The Red Men generated momentum when
Jordan Calhoun snagged a ground ball and converted on a clear attempt to set up the offense. Szun eventually found Ferrell in front of the net, where he let a shot go past Panther goalkeeper Hank Harris to give the Red Men a 3-2 lead with 7:49 left in the second quarter.

Less than two minutes later, Harris caused a turnover in the Panther's zone and notched a goal to give the Red Men a 4-2 lead with 6:24 left in the second quarter.

Tanner Schneider and Justin Dennis each tallied a goal for the Panthers to tie the game 4-4 with 14:29 left in the fourth quarter.

After 14+ minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Davis Thompson's goal with 0:06 left in the game put the nail in the coffin and gave the Panthers a 5-4 victory.

Carthage outshot the Panthers 36-27 in the game.
Ryan Smith took the loss in net for Carthage and tallied five saves.

The Red Men will return to action tomorrow, March 23 at Hanover College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
