Box Score 4 The Carthage College softball team (3-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) split a pair of games on Monday, March 23 at the National Training Center Springs Games in Clermont, Fla. Carthage lost to Union College (2-3), 4-3, before defeating Colby College (2-1) by a 7-2 margin.
The Lady Reds opened the trip on Saturday, March 21 with a 5-3 loss to Ripon College and 3-0 loss to No. 20 William Paterson University. On Sunday, March 22, Carthage defeated the Rochester Institute of Technology (0-3), 8-0, before edging Carleton College (5-5), 1-0.
Ripon broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth inning off starting pitcher
Jessica Kirby (0-1). Ashley Gnacinski (3-2) went the distance to collect the win for Red Hawks.
Olivia Scott went three-for-three with two RBI for the Lady Reds. William Paterson pitcher Allison Podmajersky shut down Carthage with a three-hit shutout over seven innings, walking one and striking out seven batters.
In the win over the Rochester Institute of Technology, Carthage took a 4-0 lead after two innings and tacked on four more runs in the fifth before the game was halted due to an eight-run rule.
Darian Pelsor went two-for-three with an RBI.
Katie Herron (Jr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) twirled a five-inning no-hitter, walking one and striking out 12 batters. Carthage's
Kirstyn Buchholz doubled in the game's lone run in the third inning of the Carleton game.
Darian Pelsor (1-0) blanked the Knights on five hits and two walks over seven innings.
In the loss to Union, the Dutchmen took a 4-1 lead after three innings, with the Lady Reds scoring two runs late to close the gap to 4-3.
Makenzie Walker (0-2) was unable to get out of the third inning and took the loss. Allyson Staats (2-1) went the distance the get the win.

Becky Cronk each had two hits for Carthage.
On Tuesday, March 24, the Lady Reds play No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 a.m. and D'Youville College at 11 a.m. On Wednesday, March 25, Carthage takes on Buena Vista University at 11 a.m. and Wellesley College at 1 p.m. The trip concludes on Thursday, March 26 with an 11 a.m. game versus Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a 1 p.m. contest against Thomas College.
