Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (16-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 24th in the March 28 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept a Tuesday, April 3 doubleheader from Ripon College (6-8), 5-2 and 5-4, at Tracy Field in Ripon, Wis.
In the opening game, Carthage pitcher
Krystina Leazer (Jr., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) upped her season record to 10-1 by limiting the Red Hawks to two runs, one earned, on five hits, no walks and nine strikeouts. Stephanie Rieuwpassa (5-3) took the loss. Ripon took a 2-0 lead in the first. Carthage picked up a run in the sixth on an RBI-triple by
Abby Hanson and then scored four in the seventh.
Katie Morman triple in one run in the seventh and
Alyssa Schrader doubled home two.
Carthage fell behind, 4-1, after three innings in the nightcap. The Lady Reds scored two unearned runs in the fourth to shave the lead to 4-3. Carthage scored the go-ahead runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Schrader and an RBI-double by Hanson. Schrader (6-1) was the winning pitcher. She allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits and no walks over six and two-thirds innings. Leazer got the final out in the seventh to earn her first save.
On Thursday, April 5, the Lady Reds play host to Loras College (11-7) in a 3 p.m. twinbill at the Carthage Softball Field in Kenosha, Wis.
