The Carthage College women's water polo team (1-4 in varsity action) went 1-3 at the Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25 University of Notre Dame Club Tournament at the Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Ind. On Saturday, Carthage lost to the University of Iowa club team, 6-4, and fell to the Notre Dame club team by a 14-6 margin. On Sunday, the Lady Reds fell to the Michigan State University club squad, 8-10, before defeating the Eastern Michigan University club unit, 17-6.
Ember McCoy (So., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley),
Mari Paraskevopoulos (Sr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey)and
Kati Pedersen (Sr., Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) had four steals each against Iowa. Pedersen collected four goals and an assist against Notre Dame, while Paraskevopoulos had two goals and an assist. In the Michigan State game, Paraskevopoulos had three goals and one assist, while McCoy was credited with three assists.
Jackie Knightly (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) scored four times with an assist in the win over Eastern Michigan. Paraskevopoulos had three goals against the Hurons,
Agnes Wojtas (Jr., Palatine, Ill.) four assists and five steals, and
Sammi Craig (Fr., Chicago Ridge, Ill./Oak Lawn-Richards) added three steals.
Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, March 30-31 for the Collegiate Water Polo Association's "East at West Tournament" at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Chrouser Fitness Center Pool. On Friday, March 30, Carthage plays Wheaton (Ill.) at 1:30 p.m. and Connecticut College at 6 p.m. On Saturday, March 31, the Lady Reds face Utica College at 6 p.m. and Macalester College at 9 p.m.
