Box Score When Sunday's game with Wisconsin-Superior was postponed due to a freak spring storm over the Southwest, Carthage coach Augie Schmidt smelled trouble. The unscheduled day off threw a monkey wrench in his pitching plans, and the Red Men (2-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 13th in the March 20 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/“D3baseball.com” poll, fell to the Yellowjackets (6-4) by a 10-2 margin at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
Wisconsin-Superior took a quick, 2-0 lead in the first inning off starter
Andy Pucher on a hit batter, a walk, an infield error, a balk and a sacrifice fly. The Yellowjackets made it 3-0 in the third on RBI-single by Jeff Miller. Wisconsin-Superior scored two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Justin Haag's base-loaded walk scored a run, and Casey Dittel's sacrifice fly scored the other run. T.J. Marty Dzik and a sacrifice fly Tom Fairbanks upped the lead to 7-0. A Wyatt Soderquist RBI-single, followed by a two-run single by Evanson made it a 10-0 game in the sixth. The Red Men finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth on a two-out- two-run single by
Andrew Arenson.

Andrew Arenson (So., Naperville, Ill./North) was only Carthage player with more than one hit. Arenson went a perfect four-for-four with a double and two RBI.
“This was supposed to be an off-day, a re-load day” pointed Carthage coach
Augie Schmidt IV, “and we had blown up our pitching even before this game. So we knew this was going to be tough go. We swung the bats good against a good pitcher. We hit the ball hard—I was happy about that part. We also found ourselves a freshman pitcher in
Jake Jewell, I think. He threw great. He's also a terrific third baseman, but we've asked him to pitch this year, because we need the help there. Even though we lost, I think we left the park better than we were when we got here. It's one of those days.
