Results
The Carthage College men's swimming team (3-5 dual meet record) was defeated by Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 113-92, on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. Though they suffered a loss, Coach Greg Earhart said, “they got stronger as the meet went on.”
Carthage's
Kyle Drake (Sr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) took an impressive win in the 200 backstroke (1:53.15), finished second in the 400 IM (4:11.01) and first in the 400 medley relay (3:37.75) with the team of
Scott Pinter (So., Bloomington, Ill./Normal-Community),
Doug Schranck (Sr., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) and
Steven Mathe (Jr., Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein-Carmel Catholic).
Schranck finished in the 200 butterfly (2:01.14), followed by
Tyler Smith (Jr., Farmington, Minn./Farmington) in third with a time of 2:09.31. Smith also finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.22) along with the team of Benjamin Ertl (Fr., Phillips, Wis./Phillips),
Mitch Reecher (Fr., Byron, Ill./Byron) and
Sam Hoffman (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove). Taking third in the 200 freestyle relay was the team of Drake, Mathe, Schranck, and
Brennan Reynolds (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis./Marquette University High School) with a time of 1:32.21.
The Red Men also took second place finishes in the 500 freestyle by Teryn Solun (Fr., St. John, Ind./Lake Central) with a time of 4:57.11, the 100 freestyle by Hoffman with a time of 50.91 and the 200 breaststroke by
Derrick Rendon (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./South) with a time of 2:19.11. Third place finishes were also taken by
Adam Glover (Sr., Eureka, Mo./Eureka) in the 500 freestyle (5:02.14),
Eric Ross (Sr., West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) in the 200 backstroke (2:05.08),
Evan Weyrauch (Fr., Rockford, Ill./Christian) in the 100 freestyle, Reecher in the 50 freestyle (22.95), Solun in the 1,000 freestyle (10:02.91) and
Kyle Rasmussen (So., Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.64).
The Red Men will play host to Wheaton College, Jan. 14 in an 11 a.m. meet at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
