Men's Tennis Splits with UW-Whitewater and Lawrence on April 2

Red Men Play Host to North Central (Ill.) on Friday

The Carthage College men's tennis team (11-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Saturday, April 2 double-dual match at Wisconsin-Whitewater's Wangerin Tennis Courts in Whitewater, Wis. Carthage lost to the host-Warhawks (17-4), 6-3, before blanking Lawrence University (3-8), 9-0.

Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 17-3), ranked 19th in the March 17 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, won both of his No. 1 singles matches, defeating Wisconsin-Whitewater's Andy McGlashen, 6-3, 7-6(3), and winning over Lawrence's Jason Dunn, 6-2, 7-5. Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 17-4), ranked 22nd in the regional rankings, won both of his No. 2 singles contests, winning over the Warhawks' Andrew Bayliss, 6-7(5), 6-4, 10-5, and winner over the Vikings' Caleb Ray, 6-2, 7-6(1). Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 15-3) won both of his No. 3 singles matches. Alex McLean (Jr., Belleville, Ill./West, 3-5) split at No. 4 singles, as did Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 11-9) at No. 5 singles.

Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Hazelman and Lotz (17-4), ranked 11th in the region, lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater but won over Lawrence, as did the No. 2 team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (14-5) finished fourth and the No. 3 tandem of Brian Howes (So., Bartlett, Ill.) and Russell Mull (Jr., Lake Forest, Ill., 7-6). The Red Men open their CCIW-schedule on Friday, April 8 by playing host to North Central College in a 3:30 p.m. match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
