The Carthage College men's tennis team (13-6, 2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) edged CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (9-9, 1-3), 5-4, on Saturday, April 16 in an indoor contest at Courts Plus in Elmhurst, Ill.

Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 19-4), ranked 16th in the April 14 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, defeated the Bluejays' Alex Harbert at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 19-5) won over Will Jung at No. 2 singles, 7-6(6), 6-3. Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 18-3) was a winner No. 3 singles. Alex McLean (Jr., Belleville, Ill./West, 4-7) fell at No. 4 singles, as did Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 12-11) at No. 5 singles and Russell Mull (Jr., Lake Forest, Ill., 2-10) at No. 6 singles.

Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (19-4), ranked 12th in the region, was winner over Elmhurst, as was the No. 2 team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (16-6). The Red Men's No. 3 tandem of McLean and Brian Howes (So., Bartlett, Ill., 0-2) fell to the Bluejays. The Red Men's scheduled match versus the University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday was canceled.

Carthage travels to Wheaton, Ill., on Wednesday, April 20 to play CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill.) in a 3:30 p.m. match.
