The Carthage College men's tennis team (2-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened indoor play on Saturday, Feb. 5 by sweeping a double-dual match at the Lakeside Tennis Center in Monmouth, Ill. Carthage defeated Monmouth College (0-1), 5-4, before handling Cornell College (2-2) by a 6-3 margin. 

Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 5-1) won his number-two singles contest over Monmouth's Chris Utterback, 7-6(10-2), 6-3, before defeating Cornell's Garrett Russikoff at number-one singles, 6-0, 6-0. Jeff Lotz Jr., (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 4-1) defeated Monmouth's Chris Franco at number-one singles, 6-2, 6-1, before winning over Cornell's Justin Bradfield, 6-1-, 6-1, at number-two singles. 
 
Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 2-0) swept both of his number-three singles matches. Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area) split at number-four singles. Russell Mull (Fr., Lake Forest, Ill., 0-2) lost both of his number-five singles contests, as did Brian Howes (So., Bartlett, Ill., 0-3) at number-six singles. Carthage's number-one doubles team of Hazelman and Lotz (4-1) won both of their matches, as did the number-two team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (2-0). 

The Red Men travel to Madison, Wis., on Saturday, Feb. 12 to play two matches at Wisconsin-Madison's Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Carthage takes on a Concordia University (Wis.) at 1 p.m. and St. Norbert College at 4 p.m.
