The Carthage College men's tennis team (4-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) swept a pair of matches on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Wisconsin-Madison's Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis. Carthage blanked St. Norbert College (3-1), 9-0, and swept Concordia University (Wis., 0-3), 9-0.
Jeff Lotz Jr., (So., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 6-1) won both of his number-one singles matches, defeating Brian Tresedder of Concordia (Wis.), 6-0, 6-3, and winning over St. Norbert's Derek Harrington, 6-1, 6-3.
Daneric Hazelman (Jr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands/Natabua, 7-1), ranked 15th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, won his number-two singles, defeating Concordia's Pat Schramka, 6-4, 6-0, and winning over St. Norbert's Tim Hartwick, 6-3, 6-0.
Matt Whiteside (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 4-0) won both of his number-three singles matches, as did
Nick Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 4-1) at number-four singles,
Russell Mull (Fr., Lake Forest, Ill., 2-2) and
Brian Howes (So., Bartlett, Ill., 2-3) at number-six singles.
Carthage's number-one doubles team of Hazelman and Lotz (6-1), ranked 25th in the region, won both of their matches, as did the number-two team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (4-0) and the number-three tandem of Mull and Howes (2-0). The Red Men travel to Fond du Lac, Wis., on Saturday, Feb. 19 to play a double-dual match at Centre Court. Carthage takes on Edgewood College at 3 p.m. and Ripon College at 7 p.m.
