LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's golf team tied for first at the Como Crossings Intercollegiate on Wednesday at Hawk's View Golf Club. The Firebirds carded a two-round team score of 599, finishing tied with the University of Dubuque and three strokes ahead of Carthage B with a 602 score.
The Firebirds opened the tournament with a 299 in the first round before shooting a 300 in the second round to finish with a two-round total of 599. Carthage B finished third with a two-round score of 602, carding rounds of 302 and 300.
Grant Faherty led Carthage B, finishing second overall with a two-round score of 144 after shooting rounds of 71 and 73. Rylan Frazer put up two rounds of 73, tying for third place with a score of 146 individually. James Tyrrell placed fifth overall with a two-round score of 147. Tyrrell opened with a 69 before carding a 78 in the final round. Tayt Hager finished tied for sixth with a 148, posting rounds of 76 and 72.
Colton Woodring for Carthage B tied 11th with a score of 149, putting up rounds of 75 and 74. Brett Vandergrift also on Carthage B tied 16th with a total of 151, recording rounds of 79 and 72. Tied with him was Nick Barry finishing with a two-round score of 151, recording rounds of 77 and 74. Grady Puett finished tied for 22nd with a 155, shooting rounds of 79 and 76. Ethan Frasch finished tied for 27th with a two-round score of 156, carding rounds of 77 and 79.
"That was a fantastic win. We got contributions from everyone, whether in the first round, the second round or both. Today was a perfect example of how impressive our depth is. James fires a blazing 69 to start us, struggles just a bit on the back, yet everyone else was there to pick him up.
- It is very exciting to see the youngsters starting to play such a big role as well. Grant earning second, Rylan earning fourth, Colton coming in 11th, and Grady finishing 22nd is a great sign as we continue to move forward.
-Dubuque is traditionally a very strong program, and the last few years they have been especially strong, qualifying for the NCAA National Championship tournament in both 2025 and 2026. Earning the championship today against a very solid field, and squeaking out the win over Dubuque was especially satisfying.
- This group is very motivated to keep getting better and better, and they are passionate about their games. It takes a ton of work, and it doesn't always translate, but today it showed up on the scorecard. I'm very proud of them."
