WHITEWATER – The Carthage women's golf team was defeated 5-0 by UW-Whitewater on Friday in Team Match Play action, as the Firebirds battled throughout the day against a strong home-standing opponent.
Whitewater got off to a strong start winning the first two matches 7-5 over
Steda Lundak and
Samantha Bocock and 6-5 over
Lauren Howe and
Braelyn Davoust.
Match 4 went to Whitewater vs
Ro Longden and
Nina Mayfield and Match 5 went 5-4 vs
Lexi Manteufel and
Emily Tralewski.
The highpoint of the day for the Firebirds was in Match 3 when
Mae Norman and
Madeline Midgett came back from a 3-hole deficit to win the 15th hole on a long birdie putt from Maddie and a great up and down par from Mae on the 17th hole.
Unfortunately, both players hit their drives on the 18th hole too good and they ran through the fairway, presenting very difficult approach shots to the green and they ended up losing the match 1 down.

"Not the results we were hoping for today, but the main purpose of the matches today was to be able to finish off a great year for the team with some fun, and we were able to accomplish that, no matter what the scores were. Overall, it has been a great year for the team; we have improved significantly as individuals as well as a team. I am looking forward to seeing the team continue to work hard this summer and come back in the fall ready to continue growing as a team."
