No. 28 Carthage 4, Augustana 1
BLOOMINGTON – The Carthage men's tennis team faced off against the Augustana College Vikings on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2026 CCIW Men's Tennis Tournament. After sweeping doubles, the Firebirds battled through a tightly contested round of singles play to defeat the Vikings and advance to the CCIW Championship.

 

In doubles play, Finn Morris and Diego Silva earned a No. 1 doubles win over Aingeru Garcia Acebo and Jorge Marcelo Escribano with a 6-3 performance. Francisco Silveira and Ethan Foucheaux clinched the team point with a 6-2 win in No. 3 doubles over Grant Meyers and Santiago Diaz. The Firebirds took a 1-0 lead over the Vikings heading into singles play.

In singles play, Silva extended the Firebirds lead to 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Saman Rezaeyan in No. 2 singles. The Vikings answered back in No. 3 singles, as Marcelo Escribano defeated Morris 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to cut the deficit to 2-1. Linus Bangert extended the Carthage lead back to two points with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win in No. 6 singles over Garcia Acebo. Cyriac Cayuela clinched the team win in No. 4 singles, defeating Lazo 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 to send Carthage to the championship match.


 
The Firebirds (21-3, 6-1 CCIW) return to action on Saturday, May 2 as the squad takes on the top-seed North Central for the CCIW Championship match. Action begins at 2 p.m. in Bloomington, Ill. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
