#2 Wheaton, 4, #3 Carthage 1
BLOOMINGTON – The Carthage women's tennis team competed in the 2026 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Tournament Semifinal match against the Wheaton College Thunder on Friday afternoon. After a tightly fought round of doubles play went in favor of the Thunder, the Firebirds came up short in singles play and were eliminated from the CCIW Tournament.

 

In doubles play, Niki Manojlovic and Marie Weis dropped a 6-2 contest in No. 2 doubles against Janet Kondo and Ella Malone to give the Thunder an early advantage for the doubles point. The Firebirds evened things up with a 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles as Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson took down Madeline Gentry and Tatum Thurstone. The doubles point came down to the result of No. 3 doubles, where Jordan Miller and Bella Rizzo came up short in a 6-4 decision against Mia Luo and Carly O'Leary. The Thunder took a 1-0 lead over the Firebirds heading into singles play.

In singles play, Manojlovic tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Malone in No. 3 singles. The Thunder then went on a 3-0 run to close out the match, starting with Sophie Dew defeating Rizzo 6-4, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. Gentry then defeated Arreazola with a 6-2, 6-4 final score in No. 1 singles, while Miller fell to Kondo in No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-3. The Thunder claimed the match 4-1 and advanced to the CCIW Championship match.
