KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage women's tennis team defeated North Central, 4-3, on Wednesday at Smeds Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Carthage took the first team point of the match. Rya Arreazola and
Greta Peterson earned a 6-2 victory over Meghan McSweeney and Anais Gerard in No. 2 doubles.
Valentina Huesca and
Jordan Miller followed with a 6-2 win over Alexandra Zaskowski and Hannah Sams in No. 3 doubles.
Niki Manojlovic and
Kamila Dobija completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 victory over Berkley Klarich and Kate Herlihy in No. 1 doubles, giving the Firebirds a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
In singles play, Huesca extended the Carthage lead with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Sams in No. 6 singles. Herlihy answered for North Central with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Arreazola in No. 2 singles, cutting the Carthage lead to 2-1.
McSweeney then tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Dobija in No. 3 singles. Klarich gave North Central its first lead of the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Manojlovic in No. 1 singles.
Peterson tied the match at 3-3 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 comeback victory over Gerard in No. 4 singles. Miller then completed the comeback, defeating Zaskowski, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 5 singles to clinch the 4-3 victory for the Firebirds.
The Firebirds (3-2) will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 8, against Elmhurst in Elmhurst, Ill. Action begins at 2 p.m. Carthage women's tennis returns to Smeds Tennis Center on Saturday, Oct. 10 as the squad continues conference play against Millikin at 10 a.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
