APPLETON – The Carthage women's tennis team traveled north on Thursday to face off against the Lawrence University Vikings. After losing the doubles point, the Firebirds bounced back with a strong effort in singles play to claim the victory over the Vikings.

 

In doubles play, Jordan Miller and Bella Rizzo earned a 6-2 win over Rachael Pofahl and Evie Vacek in No. 3 doubles. Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson dropped a 6-3 decision against Anna Vanden Acker and Logan Kane in No. 1 doubles. The Vikings claimed the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead over the Firebirds as Clara Hills and Misora Sky Shinohara defeated Niki Manojlovic and Marie Weis in No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Rizzo tied the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 5 singles against Shinohara. Miller then gave the Firebirds a 2-1 lead after taking down Pofahl in No. 4 singles with a pair of 6-0 victories. Manojlovic extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kane in No. 3 singles, before Valentina Huesca secured the team victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Madelena Priest in No. 6 singles. The Vikings cut into the deficit with Hills defeating Arreazola with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 final score. Peterson closed out the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win over Vanden Acker in No. 2 singles.


 
The Firebirds (8-9) return home on Sunday, April 19 to host MSOE and celebrate Senior Day at Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine, Wis. Action is scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
