Men's Tennis Earns Shutout Victories Over Wabash and Cornell

ORLANDO – The Carthage men's tennis team competed in a pair of matches against Wabash and Cornell on Monday to kick off the team's 2026 spring break trip to Florida. The Firebirds got off to a strong start by shutting out Wabash and then sweeping Cornell to earn a pair of victories.

How it Happened 

VS WABASH

In doubles play, Finn Morris and Diego Silva defeated Murilo Guarniari and Cole Shifferly 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. Ethan Foucheaux and Francisco Silveira earned a 6-1 win over Matthew Haas and Edmon Neto in No. 3 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Luca Okino and Victor Pimenta defeated Augusto Ghidini and Tharakesh Ashokar 6-2 to finish off the doubles sweep for the Firebirds.

In singles play, Pimenta kept the scoring going with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Samuel Soto Garcia in No. 6 singles. Linus Bangert defeated Vittorio Bona 6-1, 6-3 in No. 5 singles to extend the Carthage lead to 3-0. Silveira claimed a 2-6, 6-1, (10-1) win over Shifferly in No. 1 singles to secure the victory for the Firebirds. Silva used a pair of 6-4 victories to defeat Guarniari in No. 2 singles. Morris claimed a 2-6, 6-3, (10-5) win over Ghidini in No. 3 singles, while Cyriac Cayuela earned a win over Ashokar in No. 4 singles with a pair of 6-4 victories.

VS CORNELL

In doubles play, Foucheaux and Silveira defeated Andrew Campbell 6-1 in No. 2 doubles. Marco Czosnyka and Daniel Jaworski earned a 6-2 win over Gavin Collyott and Matthew Oshiro in No. 3 doubles. Morris and Silva finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win over Trent Devore and Jack Saunders. 

In singles play, Okino defeated Henry Lambley 6-0, 6-3 in No. 4 singles to give Carthage a 2-0 lead. Pimenta then shut out Campbell in No. 5 singles with a pair of 6-0 victories. Foucheaux defeated Collyott 6-1, 6-0 in No. 6 singles to clinch the victory for the Firebirds. Silva then defeated Devore with a pair of 6-0 wins in No. 1 singles. Bangert defeated Zachary Ong 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, while Cayuela defeated Saunders 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.
