ORLANDO – The Carthage women's tennis team concluded their spring break trip to Florida on Friday afternoon with a matchup against the Calvin University Knights. The Firebirds got out to a fast start by sweeping the Knights in doubles play and taking an early lead on the scoreboard. However, the Knights rallied back and swept the Firebirds in singles play to win the match.

 

In doubles play, Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson earned a 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles over Ryan Morey and Marina Ribeiro. Jordan Miller and Bella Rizzo then fell to Ana Clara Pizaia Ornellas and Rachel Grissom 6-4 in No. 3 doubles. The Firebirds claimed the team doubles point as Niki Manojlovic and Marie Weis earned a win in No. 2 doubles, defeating Tessa Holman and Julia Hooker 7-6 (8-6).

In singles play, Sabrina Lopez earned a No. 5 singles win over Rizzo with a pair of 6-0 victories as the Knights tied the match at 1-1. The Knights then took a 2-1 lead as Holman defeated Peterson 6-4, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Elise Norman defeated Valentina Huesca in No. 6 singles 7-6, 6-2 to give the Knights a 3-1 lead. Miller then fell to Hooker 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles as the Knights clinched the match victory with a 4-1 lead. Arreazola fell to Morey 6-2, 6-3 in No. 1 singles, while Manojlovic dropped a 6-4, 6-1 contest in No. 3 singles against Ornellas. The Knights took the match 6-1.


 
The Firebirds (6-8) return home on Friday, Mar. 20 as the Firebirds host Concordia (Wis.) in Racine, Wis at the LifeSport Athletic Club. Action is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
