LAKE BLUFF, Ill. – The Carthage women's tennis team hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Lake Forest Foresters in Illinois. The Forester swept the Firebirds in doubles play before claiming the victory with five points in singles play.

 

In doubles play, Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson fell 6-4 in No. 1 doubles to Sophia Strupovets and Lilliam Dockal. Niki Manojlovic and Marie Weis dropped a 6-4 contest against Anya Mookencherry and Avelynn Wen in No. 2 doubles, before Jordan Miller and Bella Rizzo fell 7-6 (7-1) in No. 3 doubles to Kate Feist and Anika Kinnear. The Forester took a 1-0 lead over the Firebirds after claiming the doubles point.

In singles play, Arreazola dropped a No. 1 singles match against Strupovets with a pair of 6-1 defeats. Miller suffered a loss to Wen, falling 6-2, 6-3 in No. 4 singles as the Foresters pulled ahead 3-0. The Foresters secured the victory after Dockal defeated Peterson 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 singles to give Lake Forest a 4-0 advantage. The Firebirds found the scoreboard in No. 6 singles, as Valentina Huesca defeated Olivia Pandazi 6-4, 6-2 to earn her first collegiate victory. Manojlovic dropped a 4-6, 6-3, (10-4) battle with Mookencherry in No. 3 singles, before Rizzo fell in No. 5 singles 6-2, 5-7, (11-9).


 
The Firebirds (5-5) return to action on Monday, Mar 9 as the squad takes on Cornell in Orlando, Fla. Carthage women's tennis returns home on Mar. 20 as the Firebirds host Concordia (Wis.) in Racine, Wis. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
