NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Victor Pimenta of the Carthage men's tennis team has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Pimenta, a junior from Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, went a combined 4-0 on Saturday, Feb. 7 as the Firebirds earned a pair of wins over Carleton and St. Olaf. In the 5-2 win over Carleton, Pimenta teamed up with
Luca Okino to earn a 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles over Zach Leslie and Baiyun Jing before defeating Owen Heidtke 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles. Against St. Olaf, Pimenta and Okino cruised to a 6-3 victory in No. 2 doubles over Madden Vanderwerf and Marjan Veldic. Pimenta closed out the weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mason Ramirez in No. 5 singles.
The Firebirds (4-0) return to action on Friday, Feb. 13 as the squad takes on No. 35 Wis-Whitewater in a neutral site match at the Lake Geneva Tennis Club in Lake Geneva, Wis. Action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CST. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
