KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage men's tennis team hosted the 2025 CCIW Men's Tennis Fall Individual Tournament at Smeds Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday. It was a strong weekend of early season tennis for the Firebirds, as the team came away with multiple singles champions and a lot of success in doubles play.

SINGLES FLIGHTS
In Flight 1, Francisco Silveira opened with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Wheaton's Corin Tang, followed by a 6-4, 6-3 victory against North Central's Philipp Wottgen. Silveira secured the Flight 1 championship with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carroll's Andrew LaBelle.
Diego Silva also competed in Flight 1, defeating Millikin's Matthew Kordesh 7-6(6), 2-6, (10-5) in his opener. Silva then fell 6-4, 6-2 to LaBelle in the semifinals and dropped the third-place match to Wottgen, 6-2, 6-4.
In Flight 2, Linus Bangert rallied for a 2-6, 6-0, (11-9) win over Illinois Wesleyan's Thad Dillow before falling 6-3, 7-5 to Wheaton's Andrew Jang.
Finn Morris opened with a 7-5, 6-7(5), (10-5) win over Carroll's Jay Kubota, then lost 6-1, 6-2 to North Central's Rafael Lessa. Morris and Bangert did not play the scheduled third-place match.
In Flight 3, Luca Okino defeated Carroll's Ryan LaBelle 4-6, 6-4, (12-10) and North Central's Jack Briggs 6-4, 6-0 to reach the final, where he fell to top-seeded Henry Ros of North Central 6-3, 4-6, (10-8).
Ethan Foucheaux earned a 6-7(2), 6-1, (10-8) win over Carroll's Ulrik Gellein before falling 7-6(5), 6-3 to Ros. Foucheaux claimed third place by default over North Central's Ryan Ward.
In Flight 4, Victor Pimenta won with back-to-back 6-1 victories over Carroll's Felix Persson, advanced by walkover against Wheaton's Toby Schmidt, and captured the championship with a 7-5, 6-4 win over North Central's Rafael Miquel Isern.
Marco Czosnyka beat Carroll's David Eman 6-3, 6-2 before falling to Isern 6-2, 6-4. He later dropped the third-place match to Schmidt 7-6(1), 6-4.
In Flight 5, Miles Whelan topped Wheaton's Colin Brantly 6-4, 6-4 before falling 6-1, 4-6, (10-8) to North Central's David Vilaroig. Whelan secured third place with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Wheaton's Josh Hartman.
Daniel Jaworski fell to Hartman 6-3, 6-3 in his opener but bounced back with a 5-7, 6-3, (10-2) win over Illinois Wesleyan's Chase Tomecki and a 6-1, 3-6, (10-4) victory over Carroll's Braydon Richardson to place fifth.
In Flight 6, James Schweitzer cruised past Illinois Wesleyan's Aidan Mulcahey 6-1, 6-0, then outlasted Carroll's Nate Christensen 3-6, 6-1, (10-8). Schweitzer clinched the championship with a 6-0, 7-6(5) win over Wheaton's Elliot Matthew.
Payton Nelson defeated Carroll's Layton Carls 6-2, 6-7(5), (10-8) before falling 6-2, 6-4 to Matthew and 6-3, 6-1 to Christensen.
In Flight 7, Diego Alvarez opened with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan's Jesus Avalos. He then lost 6-2, 6-1 to Carroll's Carson Leighton and dropped his final match 6-1, 1-6, (11-9) to Illinois Wesleyan's Truman Raher.
DOUBLES FLIGHTS
In Flight 1, Morris/Silva defeated Carroll 8-5 and North Central 8-4, while Silveira/Bangert edged Wheaton 8-7(4) and beat North Central 8-3. The Carthage duos did not meet in the final.
In Flight 2, Cyriac Cayuela/Foucheaux earned wins over Wheaton (8-1) and North Central (8-2). On the opposite side, Pimenta/Okino defeated North Central 8-4 and Carroll 8-3. The two Firebirds pairs did not face each other in the championship.
In Flight 3, Czosnyka/Jaworski won 8-1 over Illinois Wesleyan and 8-4 against Wheaton, while Whelan/Schweitzer posted 8-4 wins over Carroll and North Central. The Carthage teams did not compete against each other for the title.
In Flight 4's round robin, Alvarez/Nelson went unbeaten, collecting two victories to secure the championship.
The Firebirds return to action on Sept. 26 at the ITA Regional Tournament in St. Peter, Minn. Carthage men's tennis will return home on February 15 as the Firebirds host MSOE in Racine, Wis. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
