#2 Carthage 4, #7 Illinois Wesleyan 0
STERLING – The Carthage men's tennis team faced off against the Illinois Wesleyan Titans on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2025 CCIW Men's Tennis Tournament. The Firebirds battled hard, shutting out the Titans with a swift 4-0 victory.

 

In doubles play, Cyriac Cayuela and Finn Morris earned a #3 doubles win over Griffin Hammond and Chase Tomecki with a 6-3 victory. Cooper Ferruzzi and Francisco Silveira secured the team point for the Firebirds with a 6-2 win in #2 doubles over Thad Dillow and Ryan McCoy. The Firebirds took a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

In singles play, Cayuela earned his 12th consecutive win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in #4 singles over Dillow. Diego Silva defeated McCoy in #3 singles 6-1, 6-4 to give the Firebirds a 3-0 lead. Silveira secured the team win in #1 singles, defeating Ian Turnbull 6-4, 6-3.


 
The Firebirds (18-6) return to action on Friday, May 2 as the team competes in the 2025 CCIW Men's Tennis Tournament Semifinals against #3 Augustana in Rock Island, Ill. at 11:30 a.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
