Carthage 4, Augustana 3
RACINE – The Carthage men's tennis team hosted the Augustana Vikings at the LifeSport Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds swept doubles play to take an early lead, but the Vikings battled back. Carthage fought through singles play and squeezed out a 4-3 victory over their blue and yellow foes.

 

In doubles play, Cyriac Cayuela and Finn Morris cruised to a 6-4 win in #3 doubles against Tim Philip and Saman Rezaeyan. Elios Briand and Myles Krzewinski earned a victory in #1 doubles with a 7-5 win over Arthur Hermange and David Larraga. Cooper Ferruzzi and Francisco Silveira finished the doubles sweep with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Santiago Diaz and Aingeru Garcia Acebo in #2 doubles. The Firebirds took a 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard.

In singles play, Krzewinski dropped a 6-3, 6-2 battle in #1 singles to Hermange, tying the match at 1-1. The Firebirds jumped back out in front with a #2 singles win from Silveria, as he defeated Rezaeyan 6-1, 6-3. Briand used a pair of 6-1 victories to defeat Luna in #3 singles and give Carthage a 3-1 lead over Augustana. The Vikings rallied back to tie the match at 3-3 after Diego Silva fell to Larraga 6-2, 6-4 in #4 singles and Ferruzzi dropped a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 match in #6 singles against Philip. The match came down to #5 singles where Cayuela faced off against Diaz. Cayuela took an early lead before defeating Diaz 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-3 and securing the win for the Firebirds.


 
The Firebirds (11-6) return to action on Friday, April 11 as the squad heads to Decatur, Ill. to take on Millikin at 3 p.m. Carthage men's tennis returns to Smeds Tennis Center on Thursday, April 17 as the Firebirds celebrate Senior Day against Carroll at 3 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
