Firebirds Clinch CCIW Regular Season Title with Saturday Sweep

ELMHURST – The Carthage men's tennis team traveled to Illinois to play their final two matches of the regular season against the Elmhurst Bluejays and the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks on Saturday. It was a historic day for the Firebirds, as the team clinched a share of the CCIW regular season title with a win over Elmhurst. The Firebirds then completed the doubleheader sweep with a win over Illinois Tech.

How it Happened 

VS ELMHURST

In doubles play, Marco Czosnyka and Daniel Jaworski earned a 6-0 shutout win over Isaac Puchalla and Caden Sultzbaugh in #2 doubles. Cyriac Cayuela and Finn Morris earned a #1 doubles win over Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza and Russell Reyes with a final 6-4. Luca Okino and Miles Whelan won by forfeit in #3 doubles over Roberto Koziol and Adrian Songco.

In singles play, Whelan defeated Songco with a pair of 6-0 victories in #4 singles, while Jaworski defeated Koziol 6-0, 6-0 in #5 singles. Diego Silva earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Montenegro-Galarza in #2 singles. Myles Krzewinski defeated Reyes 6-1, 6-0 in #1 singles, while Okino defeated Sultzbaugh with a pair of 6-1 wins. Czosnyka won by forfeit in #6 singles over Puchalla.

VS ILLINOIS TECH

In doubles play, Elios Briand and Krzewinski defeated Alexander Feher and Avneet Singh 6-1 in #1 doubles. Cooper Ferruzzi and Francisco Silveira earned a 6-1 win in #2 doubles over Pedro Caro Accino Roca and Hozumi Tada. Cayuela and Morris earned a 6-2 win in #3 singles against Pol Dueso-Guell and Eduardo Lopez.

In singles play, Silva earned a #3 singles win, defeating Dueso-Guell 6-0, 6-2. Okino defeated Singh 6-0, 6-2 in #6 singles, while Briand earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Feher in #2 singles to earn his 10th consecutive win in singles play. Ferruzzi defeated Lopez with a pair of 6-2 victories in #5 singles. Silveira earned a 7-6 (12-10), 6-3 win over Caro Accino Roca in #1 singles. Cayuela kept his winning streak alive, defeating Tada 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), (10-4) in #4 singles and improving to 11 straight singles victories.
