Firebirds Place Fifth at Cardinal Classic with Spring-Best Team Score

BOLINGBROOK — The Carthage College women's golf team competed at the Cardinal Classic on April 22, finishing fifth with a team score of 674 (344+330) at Bolingbrook Golf Club which was a season-low for the spring portion of the season.

Alina Brindza led the Firebirds with a two-round total of 166 (86+80), placing 19th overall.

Lexi Manteufel followed closely, tying for 20th with a 167 after rounds of 85 and 82.

Ro Longden posted back-to-back rounds of 84 to tie for 24th at 168, while Mae Norman tied for 32nd with a 173 (89+84).

Lauren Howe shot 92 and 93 to finish with a 185, good for 48th place. Madeline Midgett tied for 50th with a 188 (92+96).

Toni Powers rounded out the lineup, tying for 59th with a 198 (103+95). Abigail Bocock recorded an 81 in the second round after not completing the first.

The one-day, two-round tournament featured 11 full teams and more than 70 individual competitors. WashU won the event with a 615 (+39).

"Great week for the Firebirds. 330 total today was our spring season low and a fifth-place finish, where we were able to finish ahead of some of our key league competitors. Ball striking today across the team was our strongest of the spring, and our course management continues to grow. Looking forward to continuing the progress in our final tournaments and trying and bring a second W this spring."

Carthage takes part in the Take Back the Night Challenge hosted by Millikin starting on Friday, April 25.
